Smart Flexible Displacement Meter: Adaptable Displacement Sensing for Field Conditions

Smart Flexible Displacement Meter

In tunnel convergence monitoring, rigid sensors often have difficulty conforming to curved lining surfaces—either installation is time-consuming or the data is biased. Kingmach's Smart Flexible Displacement Meter puts the sensing element into a flexible package, allowing a sensor to naturally follow the curvature of the structure. In this way, installation no longer requires complicated fixing brackets, and several anchor points can be quickly positioned. For work sites with frequent disturbances and small space during the construction phase, this "stick it up and use it" design can save a lot of time on site.

Technical Detail

Configured around process stability, mold life, and long-term uptime.

Kingmach's Smart Flexible Displacement Meter is mainly used in geotechnical and structural monitoring scenarios - tunnels, slopes, deep foundation pits, bridge supports, wherever long-term tracking of small displacements is required. It combines high-precision displacement sensing with flexible packaging, allowing the sensor to be laid along pipelines, curved gantry or irregular concrete surfaces. The internal sensitive components have been temperature compensated and environmentally sealed to maintain data stability under conditions of heat, humidity, dust, and even short-term exposure to water. The specific accuracy and range can be selected from sub-millimeter to micron levels depending on the model. The output signal is usually 4-20mA or RS485, which can be easily connected to the automatic acquisition system. As a professional geotechnical instrument manufacturer, Kingmach has integrated many years of engineering experience into this product: you can customize the cable length, mounting flange or anchoring method according to on-site requirements, and the measuring range can also be cut into different specifications in meters. In addition to delivery, our technical team will assist with the first set of installation instructions and provide after-sales response in multiple regions around the world. If the project has special explosion-proof or long-term underwater requirements, we can also further communicate on the protection plan.

FAQ

Common technical questions

Is there any difference between the accuracy of flexible displacement meters and rigid displacement meters?

Under the premise of reasonable installation, the accuracy difference is not big. The sensitivity of flexible displacement meters mainly depends on the uniformity of packaging materials and installation pre-tensioning, and micron-level resolution can often be achieved in engineering. However, for absolute displacement measurements over extremely long distances (such as tens of meters), rigid types are sometimes easier to ensure straightness than flexible types. In this case, the choice needs to be combined with project requirements.

Can this sensor be used for long-term outdoor monitoring? Will ultraviolet rays or temperature changes affect the lifespan?

The flexible outer sheath is added with anti-ultraviolet and temperature-resistant additives, and the design life usually covers more than ten years of outdoor use. Extreme temperature cycles may cause slight mechanical creep, but the accelerated aging test before leaving the factory will screen out high-risk batches. If a light-shielding sleeve is added during installation, UV degradation can be further reduced.

How to match the data acquisition system? Do I have to use Kingmach's own reading instrument?

No. It outputs 4-20mA, RS485 or vibrating wire signals, which can be read directly by most geotechnical data collectors on the market. If you want to use wireless transmission, Kingmach also provides LoRa/4G wireless nodes, which can upload data to a third-party cloud platform or send it to a designated server.

Is there any limit on the range and cable length of customized displacement timing?

There are generally mature models with measuring ranges from 10mm to 100mm. Longer or shorter can be customized. There is no upper limit on cable length in theory, but when it exceeds 200 meters, it is recommended to add relays or switch to digital output to avoid signal attenuation. Specific engineering requirements can be discussed directly with our application engineers.
